About Emmanuelle
In 2009 oenologie requin was created by Emmanuelle Requin-Bekkers with the mission to provide individualised, independent advice to the wine industry.
French born and trained, winemaker Emmanuelle draws inspiration from her winemaking experience in both France and Australia. She currently lives in the McLaren Vale region where she indulges in her enthusiasm for wine and food, as well as maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
Emmanuelle’s exposure to the wines of Bandol, near her home of Toulon led her to a Degree in Biology (Biochemistry) from the University of Marseille and a Degree in Oenology from the University of Montpellier.
Working for the Hardy Wine Company (Domaine de la Baume) in the south of France offered the opportunity of a vintage in Australia and subsequently a winemaking position at Hardy’s Reynella winery where she worked with Ed Carr and Tom Newton, and later at the McLaren Vale Tintara winery with Stephen Pannell.
In 2000 she was offered the opportunity by Mike Farmilo to design and build the Langhorne Creek Winery. She was the Winery Manager/ Senior winemaker of both Langhorne Creek and Boars Rock Wineries until 2008, contract processing facilities of respectively 35,000 and 10,000 tonnes per annum.
Emmanuelle has been the winemaker for Chalk Hill Wines in McLaren Vale since 2001.
During most Australian winters, Emmanuelle has maintained and strengthened her links in France by working numerous vintages in Burgundy (Antonin Rodet - Domaine Jacques Prieur -Martin Prieur & Nadine Gublin - Domaines Des Perdrix - Bertrand Devillard), Bordeaux (Maison Bouey, negoce) and the Languedoc Rousillon. She has returned over the years to work multiple vintages with each of these companies.
